Our Background

David Durell with his wife Sue bought the Chapter Arms in April 2007 after running the catering at Boughton Golf Club for 15 years.

He was there from its conception as a partner then the owner of Premier Cru, running all the events, golf and non golf related including many hundreds of weddings and other special celebrations both at the golf club and other venues. This year was Premier Cru’s 30th year catering for test matches at Lords, the home of English cricket and indeed where he met Sue and was married a year later at the venue.

Sporting Events

Other sporting events at which he has catered for private parties and corporate organisations include Henley Regatta, Royal Ascot, Smiths lawn polo, Wimbledon, other cricket venues, rugby internationals at Twickenham, Cowes and catering for Champagne Mumm at the Admirals Cup for 20 years.

In The Wine Trade

David has 35 years experience in the wine trade and this knowledge and background is reflected in the selection of his wine list.

He spent 3 years in Europe, working in Bordeaux, Germany, Champagne, Burgundy, Cognac an Oporto from 1969-1972. He has the prestigious honour of being made a chevalier of Calvados.

He then became wine buyer for a family business with hotels, restaurants, pubs and off licences after which he owned Broad Oak Vintners near Bishop Stortford, wine merchants and special events specialists.

"Lettuce Serve You"

He was a co-owner of "Lettuce Serve You", specialists in music industry parties and pop concert catering including having the sole catering rights for concerts including The Stones, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Blondie, Pink Floyd, The Pogues, Genesis and 6 years of Monsters of Rock at Donnington Park as well as catering for their ad agencies and record companies.

His passion is making a special occasion very special and tailoring it to suit the budget and tastes for both large numbers and intimate parties.

The Perfect Venue

The Chapter Arms with its extensive gardens is the perfect venue for a large outside party or more intimate get together.

The top lawn can be the site for a hired marquee or the restaurant or pub used for a celebration at no extra cost.

With David's experience of outside catering, packages can be arranged at private houses or other venues in the area.
